Melanie Viets is a writer, editor and shepherd from Vermont. Her essays, stories, profiles and reviews have appeared in Narrative, Big Sky Journal, Whitefish Review, The Clearing, and About Place Journal, among other publications.

Melanie’s writing is grounded in her family’s hill farm. As she tends a newborn lamb or follows a crooked line of slate grave markers on foot and in the imagination, her writing reaches across generations and into the landscape.

A graduate of the Stonecoast MFA program, Melanie teaches community writing courses and provides editing and manuscript review services. She recently served as an editor at The Learned Pig, a UK-based environmental arts magazine. She lives with her family on Landskein Farm in Vermont.
