About

Melanie Viets is a writer and shepherd from Vermont. Her essays and stories have appeared in NarrativeWhitefish ReviewThe Clearing, and About Place Journal, among others.

Melanie's writing is grounded in her family's hill farm. As she sows deep-red flint corn, tends a newborn lamb, or follows a crooked line of slate grave markers on foot and in the imagination, her writing reaches across generations and into the landscape.

A graduate of the Stonecoast MFA program, Melanie teaches community writing courses and offers manuscript review services. She also serves as an editor at The Learned Pig, a UK-based environmental arts magazine. She lives with her family on Landskein Farm in Vermont.
